Lab Exam (Written)

7. Written Lab Exam

7.1 The Lab Exam: It is conducted at the end of the semester, before the final exam period, and after all experiments and applied lab exams have been completed.

a- The date, time, and location of the lab exam are announced in the lab schedule at the beginning of the semester. The classrooms assigned for the exam based on student names may be announced until the exam day.

b- Only students who have a chance to pass the lab if they score full marks or lower on the lab exam are allowed to take it. Students who are certain to fail the lab even if they take the exam, will not be admitted to the lab exam.

c- No electronic devices (including calculators) can be used during the lab exam. No supplementary documents or materials are allowed in the exam. Even if brought, their use will not be permitted.

d- The date and day of the lab exam should be followed by the student via the webpage and the notice boards in the corridors where the lab classrooms are located. The responsibility for this matter lies entirely with the student.

e- Whether the students participate in the experiment or not, they are responsible for all materials found on the lab course webpage for the exam. Questions about experiments that were not conducted may also be asked in the exam.

f- The topics of the applied exams and experiments are also within the scope of the lab exam.

g- The exam questions may include the same, very similar, or significantly modified versions of the experiments; they may also include theoretical knowledge covered in the main course, even if it was not used in the lab.

7.2 Grading: The lab exam is graded out of 80 and announced accordingly. When calculating the lab grade, the exam score is divided by 10 and then scaled to 8, which is added to the other lab scores.

a- If the lab exam is conducted as a multiple-choice test, the net score may be calculated by deducting a certain proportion of incorrect answers from the correct ones, as specified in the test booklet.

b- The lowest possible score for the lab exam is zero. Even if a negative score is calculated, the student's exam score will be recorded as zero. Taking the lab exam does not affect the student's experiment participation or applied exam scores.

c- In case of cheating or attempting to cheat in the lab exam, a report will be prepared, and the main course instructor will be informed. Based on the decision of the lab committee and the course instructor, the student may fail the course, the lab, or both, and disciplinary proceedings may be initiated. In this case, even if the student has already secured a passing grade in the lab before the lab exam, it may not be sufficient to pass the lab.

d- There is no makeup or excuse for the lab exam. If the exam is missed, the student will receive a zero, but this does not result in failing the lab. Article 8.5 will be applied.

7.3 Exam Results: The exam results will be announced before the final period.

a- The date, time, and location for reviewing the papers will also be announced along with the results.

b- The correct answers to the exam will not be published, but the student can come on the paper review day to see the questions and correct answers, and discuss the questions with the lab instructors.

c- The student can only view the exam papers on the designated paper review day and time at the announced location. The exam papers will not be shown to the student at any other time.

d- If the exam is multiple-choice, the student will not be shown their own question booklet. Only a sample booklet with the correct answers marked will be shown. If deemed appropriate, the markings of the student on the answer key may be displayed in a digital format. The decision regarding this matter rests with the lab coordinators.

e- If the exam is not multiple-choice, the student will be shown their own question booklet along with the answer key.

f- It is prohibited to attempt to copy questions or answers during the paper review day or exam. If detected, the student's lab grade may be reduced or disciplinary actions may be taken.

g - After the paper review, all lab grades will be posted on the website. After the posting, students must check their grades for any errors. Lab grades will be finalized 24 hours after the posting and sent to the main course instructor. Exam papers will be archived, and no objections will be accepted thereafter.
