Section Objection Rules

Objection to the Assigned Lab Section Hours

The reasons for objecting to the assigned section hours will be considered in the following three categories. Situations in the first category will be accepted as valid if supported by appropriate documentation. In the second category, situations will be considered valid if documented, but they will be subject to availability, and not all requests may be accepted. Situations in the third category will be deemed invalid.

1. Situations to be considered as valid in Section Objection

    • Acceptance: Valid if the documents are appropriate, official and valid.
  • If a lab/lecture session of a registered course is not visible in the schedule in the registration system but exists:
    • What to do: The student shall provide documentation from the course's instructor or assistant (a signed document or a print-out of e-mail, announcement etc.) to prove this situation and submit it to the lab coordinators.
    • NOTE: Unofficial section changes or attending different section hours than the registered one will not be accepted. 
  • Regular participation in an official university activity (e.g., the university basketball team):
    • What to do: The student shall provide an official document confirming that they are required to participate in the university's official activity.
  • A regular official duty assigned by the university:
    • What to do: The student shall submit an official letter with the details of the duty, including the date and time, if they are unable to attend the lab.
  • Official internships required/enforced by the University:
    • What to do: The student shall provide an official document confirming their internship and the fact that it is required by the University.
  • Regular obligation to be at an official institution outside of school:
    • What to do: The student shall provide official documentation proving their presence at the institution.

 

2. Situations that may be or may not be considered as valid in Section Objection

    • Acceptance: The requests will be considered as far as possibilities allow, but not all requests may be accepted.
  • Regular participation in a school club's activities:
    • What to do: If the club represents the school during that section hours, the student shall submit an official document.
  • Conflict with a Problem Session (PS):
    • What to do: The student shall provide documentation from the assistant or instructor confirming the conflict with the PS.
  • Part-time work situation:
    • What to do: The student shall submit an official document confirming their part-time employment.
  • Residing in a neighbouring province of Istanbul (Kocaeli, Sakarya, Bilecik, Bursa, Yalova, Tekirdağ, Edirne, Kırklareli):
    • What to do: The student shall provide an offical residence certificate along with a daily transportation evidence.
  • Attending a special course:
    • What to do: The student shall provide an official document confirming their participation.
  • Request to change a lab session at 9:00 AM for students staying in Kilyos dormitories:
    • What to do: The student shall submit an official document confirming their stay at the dormitory.

 

3. Situations to be considered as invalid in Section Objection:

  • Living in a distant district within Istanbul province.
  • Attending unofficially a different section of a registered course, other than the registered hours in the system.
  • Personal sports activities, club meetings or community events.
  • Non-official research or internships.
  • Any other excuse or situation other than mentioned above.

What to do: Do not come to objection, if you do, it will not be processed. There is nothing to do at all. 

 

Objections shall be made on the objection day and time by coming in person to KB410 and presenting the supporting documents. You shall fill in your timetable (better show it to the instructor there before leaving) attach it to your petition/document and leave it to the relevant course box!
