New Grading System
New Lab Grading Principles
The laboratory component of your course makes up 20% of your main course grade (as usual). This 20% (20 points) is now distributed as follows:
- 6 points for lab participation on time (subject to approval of the instructor upon handing in post-lab reports)
- 6 points for two applied lab exams*,
- 8 points for a written lab exam after completing all labs.
TOTAL: 20 points = 20% of your main course grade
In attendance evaluation, missing one experiment (except applied exams) will be tolerated, considering possible difficulties students may face during the semester.
In applied lab exams, the highest score (of the two exams) will be the applied exam grade and the lower one will be ignored. (So you have 2 chances!).
In written lab exam, there is no make-up or excuse and so.
No health report or excuse (except offical duties or exam conflicts) will be accepted for experiments and applied exams. Navigate to the new lab rules page for details!
To pass the lab, you must score at least 10 points (Due to round off, 9.49 will fail, 9.50 will pass! 2 SF counted after the decimal). If this requirement is not met for any reason, you cannot pass the lab, and thus the main course (i.e. definitely get an F), regardless of your midterm results. No discretionary grading will be applied.
* The details of the applied exam will be announced later, one week before the exam.
